Kylie Minogue and Prince's lost song 'Baby Doll' leaks online 32 years after its creation

Kylie Minogue and Prince's long-lost collaboration “Baby Doll” has surfaced online, 32 years after its creation. The song originated in 1992 when Minogue met Prince backstage following his 'Diamonds and Pearls' show at Earls Court in June. She inquired about his current projects, leading Prince to invite her to his renowned Paisley Park studio in Minneapolis.

The funk-infused version that has recently emerged features lyrics confirmed by Minogue in 2018: “Let me be your baby doll, sugar and spice and all things nice / Let me be your paradise.” During their time together in a London hotel room filled with studio equipment, Prince reportedly asked Minogue, "Where are your lyrics?" Although she hadn’t been writing lyrics at the time, she quickly put some together for him to structure a track around. The demo was later sent to Minogue in cassette form but has since gone missing.

Minogue has discussed the song's existence in interviews over the years, noting that her record label was not interested in having Prince produce the track entirely, which prevented her from recording it. She also mentioned that the Prince Estate might have a copy.

The track was initially slated to be included as one of the Vault songs recorded between 1990 and 1992 for a 'Diamonds and Love' compilation that the Prince Estate planned to release in the summer of 2022. However, the project’s scope shifted to feature only songs from the *Diamonds And Pearls* era, resulting in the exclusion of tracks recorded after October 1991, including “Baby Doll.”

This news comes just a month after the passing of Prince’s sister, Tyka Nelson. Her death was confirmed by her son, President Nelson, to the 'Minnesota Star Tribune,' although the cause of death was not disclosed.

In June, Nelson shared insights from her final conversations with Prince, reflecting on family connections and his health. She expressed that she was unaware of his illness but noticed he had lost weight during their last interaction. “A couple of times I said, ‘How are you really?’ He didn’t go into anything with me. That was bothering me, and he knew it was, but that was all he wanted to tell me,” she recounted.

Nelson revealed that their last conversation occurred just four days before his death, during which Prince avoided her questions. “He kept changing the subject, making jokes, and then we’d both laugh,” she said. She also mentioned that Prince had asked her to find more information about their family, specifically requesting her to locate a family member’s contact.
