Music firm Universal announces streaming overhaul
Universal, the world's largest music publisher, has partnered with Deezer to introduce an "artist-centric" approach to streaming.
This shift aims to prioritize professional musicians, defined as those with at least 1,000 monthly streams from 500 unique listeners, over non-music streams.
The collaboration will "attribute a double boost" to these musicians.
Additionally, Deezer plans to replace non-music audio streams with its own content, emphasizing that music is more valuable than ambient sounds.
This change will begin in France later this year and will represent a significant shift in the music streaming economic model.
It seeks to better support and reward artists at all stages of their careers.
