John Tinniswood is the new holder of the title of the oldest man in the world, at the age of 111

The new holder of the title of the oldest man in the world, John Tinniswood, was a complete unknown just a few days ago. However, after the death of the 114-year-old Venezuelan Juan Vicente Pérez Mora, this Englishman became the oldest living man in the world, at the age of 111 years and 223 days.

The great-grandfather, residing in Merseyside County, England, received the Guinness World Records certificate on Thursday, April 4.

Born in Liverpool on August 26, 1912, John Tinniswood is a devoted supporter of Liverpool FC. He met his wife, Blodwen, during World War II, and they married in 1942. The couple had a daughter born in 1943 and remained united until Blodwen's death in 1986.

Retired since 1972 and now residing in a retirement home in Southport, north of Liverpool, John Tinniswood attributes his longevity to having fish and chips every Friday and to regular walks when he was young. He recommends "keeping the mind working" and practicing "moderation."

The title of the oldest living woman - and person - in the world is held by the Spanish Maria Branyas Morera, who recently celebrated her 117th birthday. Born in the United States, a survivor of COVID, Maria Branyas Morera is thus the new dean of humanity.

However, the confirmed absolute longevity record for a woman is held by the very famous Jeanne Calment, a Frenchwoman who lived to be 122 years, 5 months, and 14 days old, from 1875 to 1997.

Jeanne Calment was therefore a supercentenarian born on February 21, 1875, in Arles and died in the same city on August 4, 1997. Dean of the French from June 20, 1986, and then dean of humanity from January 11, 1988, she became the longest-lived human being among people whose date of birth has been verified.

For men, the confirmed record for the longest-lived person is held by Jiroemon Kimura of Japan, who died at the age of 116 years and 54 days in 2013.
