Romance and challenges await as 'Emily in Paris' season 5 heads to Rome

Emily in Paris is set to take its titular character from the bustling streets of Paris to the romantic landscapes of Italy in its upcoming fifth season. While the show remains anchored in its core ensemble, the transition to Rome brings new sun-drenched adventures and characters for Lily Collins' character, Emily.

At the end of season 4, Emily is tasked with overseeing Agence Grateau's new office in Rome, a city renowned for its rich history, architecture, and vibrant culture. This move not only opens up a world of opportunities for stunning selfies but also introduces her to Marcello (played by Eugenio Franceschini), her latest romantic interest. However, the season concluded with Gabriel (portrayed by Lucas Bravo), freshly awarded a Michelin star for his restaurant, determined to win Emily back—suggesting a romantic chase to Rome.

The official synopsis for the new season reveals that as the head of Agence Grateau Rome, Emily will face various professional and romantic challenges while adapting to her new surroundings. Just as her life seems to stabilize, a work-related idea blows up, leading to heartbreak and career turmoil. In search of stability, Emily embraces her French lifestyle, only to have a significant secret threaten one of her closest relationships.

Director and executive producer Andrew Fleming shared insights with Entertainment Weekly, emphasizing that moving to Rome made sense as it serves as a romantic counterpart to Paris. He noted that the series creator, Darren Star, and he had envisioned this transition early on, given that Rome is a major European romantic hub.

Fleming also highlighted the language connection, pointing out that Sylvie (played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) and coworker Luc (portrayed by Bruno Gouery) both speak Italian, allowing for a natural integration into the culture. Regarding the ongoing saga between Emily and Gabriel, he hinted that although she is currently with Marcello, their emotional bond and professional ties mean that their story isn't finished yet.
