Meet the new Harry, Hermione, and Ron: HBO casts young trio for 'Harry Potter' series

HBO has officially announced the young actors who will portray the lead trio in its TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout have been cast as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, respectively.

The casting call, which was open to the public, attracted over 30,000 auditions last year. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer Mark Mylod expressed their excitement, stating, "The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen."

Joining the young stars is John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, with Janet McTeer portraying Minerva McGonagall and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. Other confirmed cast members include Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. More casting announcements are anticipated soon.

The three young actors are relatively new to the industry. McLaughlin has appeared in the upcoming Sky comedy Grow and the BBC series Gifted. Stanton previously played Matilda in Matilda: The Musical in the West End.

J.K. Rowling will serve as an executive producer on the series, which HBO promises will be a "faithful adaptation" of the books. This TV series aims to explore the plotlines in greater depth over at least a decade, without the time constraints faced by the original films.

Filming is expected to commence this summer at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, with the first season potentially airing as early as 2026 on HBO Max.
