"Let it Be": a film about the Beatles available in May on Disney+ next month

"Let it Be," a film about the Beatles that was unavailable for a long time, will be available next month on Disney+. Disney+ is set to release, on May 8, what could be considered a treasure for Beatles fans: a remastered version of the film "Let It Be" released in 1970. This feature film, unavailable for decades, traced the creation of the band's final eponymous album.

Directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, the film shows the Beatles' famous rooftop concert at Apple Corps studios in London in January 1969 (a concert that turned out to be the group's last public performance), and it had inspired Peter Jackson's three-part documentary released in 2021. Peter Jackson, the director of the "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, used unused footage from Michael Lindsay-Hogg to create a 7.5-hour film.

Disney+'s press release stated that "Let It Be" contains footage not included in the "Get Back" documentary. Peter Jackson restored "Let It Be" using the original film reels. "I am absolutely delighted that Michael's film has been restored and is finally available after being unseen for decades," the director praised.

"Let It Be" is a complement to "Get Back," and Peter Jackson explains that he "considers it all to be a great epic story, finally completed after five decades. The two projects complement each other."

In fact, "Get Back" follows the Beatles in January 1969 as they prepare for their first concert in over two years. They embark on writing and recording 14 new songs for the occasion.

The Beatles will also return to the big screen, as Sam Mendes is preparing a biopic of the group that will consist of four films - each dedicated to a member of the group, with a release scheduled in theaters in 2027.
