George R.R. Martin Reveals That HBO Is Already Planning Seasons 3 and 4 of "House of the Dragon"

Six months before the premiere of "House of the Dragon," George R.R. Martin revealed on his blog that the "Game of Thrones" spinoff had been renewed for two more seasons.Specifying that discussions about seasons 3 and 4 of "House of the Dragon" had already begun, George R.R. Martin added that these discussions were "full of enthusiasm" and "fun."

Regarding the next season, scheduled for summer 2024, George RR Martin confirms that it will be "very dark." The writer, who has already seen the first two episodes, finds them "formidable" and "moving." "They will make you cry," he assures.

Inspired by George R.R. Martin's book "Fire & Blood," "House of the Dragon" takes place 200 years before the events told in "Game of Thrones." The series follows the rise of the Targaryen family, a century after the unification of the Seven Kingdoms.

The first ten episodes of the first season, which aired in late summer 2022, were a great success. HBO renewed the series for a second season after breaking an audience record with the pilot of "House of the Dragon."
