'Nosferatu’ Director Robert Eggers Reportedly Set to Direct ‘Labyrinth’ Sequel

Rumors are swirling that Robert Eggers, known for directing 'Nosferatu', may take the helm for a reboot of the fantasy classic 'Labyrinth'. The original 1986 film, directed by Jim Henson and featuring David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King, has become a cult favorite but has never seen a sequel or remake.

Speculation about a continuation of the 'Labyrinth' story has been ongoing since 2016, when reports surfaced of a second installment in development, with 'Guardians of the Galaxy' co-writer Nicole Perlman attached. In 2017, 'Don’t Breathe' director Fede Alvarez was set to direct a spinoff, but he exited the project in 2020. Later that year, 'Doctor Strange' director Scott Derrickson was brought on board, with original star Jennifer Connelly in talks to reprise her role as Sarah.

Now, it seems the project may have shifted direction again, with Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider reporting that Eggers is linked to the reboot. He is said to be co-writing the film with Icelandic screenwriter Sjón, known for his collaborations with Björk and his work on 'The Northman'.

Lisa Henson, daughter of Jim Henson, is confirmed as a producer, alongside Chris Columbus, director of *Home Alone* and *Harry Potter*. There are also rumors that Alexander Skarsgård, known for roles in 'Big Little Lies' and 'Succession', could be cast as Jareth.

As of now, none of these developments have been officially confirmed by Sony Pictures or any of the individuals involved. Eggers' version of 'Nosferatu', a remake of the 1922 classic based on Bram Stoker's 'Dracula', is currently in U.S. cinemas and will be released in the UK on January 3. The film features a notable cast, including Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Emma Corrin.
