A fifth installment of the science fiction saga "Matrix" directed by Drew Goddard and produced by Lana Wachowski, will soon see the light of day

Considered one of the most influential science fiction films of all time, "Matrix," released in 1999, spawned three sequels: "Matrix Reloaded," "Matrix Revolutions," and "Matrix Resurrections."

Tasked with directing this fifth installment, Drew Goddard notably worked on the screenplay for Ridley Scott's "The Martian," a film for which he was nominated for an Oscar in 2016. The American filmmaker also wrote the films "Cloverfield" and "World War Z" and directed the film "The Cabin in the Woods."

==Twenty-five years after the release of the first "Matrix" film, a fifth installment of the franchise has been announced by Warner Bros. According to Deadline, American director Drew Goddard, known for, among others, "Cabin in the Woods," has been chosen to direct this new installment.

This is the first feature film in the series that will not be directed by the Wachowski sisters. However, Lana Wachowski will be the executive producer of the project.

For now, the cast and plot details have not yet been revealed, but Jesse Ehrman, president of production at Warner Bros. Motion Pictures, has suggested that the story of this new installment will expand the Matrix universe while remaining faithful to what made the original franchise successful.

"Drew came to Warner with a new idea that we all believe will be an incredible way to continue the Matrix universe by honoring what Lana and Lilly started over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters," Jesse Ehrman said in a statement relayed by Deadline.
