'Grand Theft Auto VI' video game delayed again until Nov. 2026

The newest installment in the blockbuster “Grand Theft Auto” video game franchise has faced yet another delay, with its release now pushed to November 2026, creators Rockstar Games announced Wednesday. “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has already been a long wait,” the studio said in a statement on X. “These extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you expect and deserve.”

The release had previously been moved from late 2025 to early 2026, and will now officially launch on November 19 of next year. Following the announcement, shares of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive dropped more than eight percent in after-hours trading.

The news of the delay came the same day protesters gathered outside Rockstar’s offices in Edinburgh, Scotland, accusing the company of union busting after the dismissal of 31 employees. Rockstar said those workers were fired for “distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum,” which they stated was a violation of internal company policy.

However, the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), which organized the demonstration, rejected the claim. The union argued that the dismissed employees were simply members of a private discussion channel connected to the union, not leaking sensitive information. Rockstar did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Despite the controversy and delays, “GTA VI” remains one of the most highly anticipated entertainment releases of the decade. Known for its provocative, open-world gameplay that lets players engage in criminal activities across massive city environments, the franchise has been both popular and criticized for its depiction of violence and adult content since its debut in 1997.

The upcoming game is set in a Miami-inspired Vice City, and will feature the series’ first playable female protagonist, a character named Lucia. A widely viewed trailer opens with Lucia being released from prison in a fictionalized part of Florida. Later in the trailer, she is seen alongside a male partner, with the two appearing to be a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde-style criminal duo. Their partnership and story arc are expected to be central to the game’s narrative.

While critics have long argued that the series glorifies violence, publisher Take-Two Interactive has consistently denied that the games encourage real-world criminal behavior. Nonetheless, “GTA VI” is on track to become one of the largest entertainment launches in history, whenever it finally arrives.
