A new generation Apple AirTag is set to launch in 2025 with improved anti-stalking features, a louder speaker and an extended battery life

Apple is reportedly working on a new edition of its popular AirTag tracker, which is expected to be launched as a successor to the current model sometime next year, as reported by Redwrite.

According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the US tech giant is already well into the development of the new product, internally referred to as B589.

The AirTag device allows users to keep track of important items such as keys, wallets, documents, and luggage. It can also serve as a personal tracker when connected to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and attached to a specific item.

Once connected, the AirTag appears in the Items tab within the Find My app, which includes features to alert users and take action against unwanted tracking, including the detection of unknown AirTags.

Improved features tipped to be included with new AirTag

The original AirTag device, launched in 2021, already included anti-stalking features, and Apple is reportedly aiming to further enhance those qualities and prevent the misuse of the device for harassment purposes.

According to Gurman, the updated AirTag is being developed in Asia and will feature an improved location-tracking service made possible by a more powerful chip. The current version has a limited range of about 10 meters, but the new chip, like the one used in the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9, will extend the range to up to 60 meters. This advancement enables the introduction of the new Precision Finding feature.

Gurman also mentioned the desire for a louder speaker, extended battery life, and improved support for wallets, similar to what is available with third-party trackers that utilize the Find My network.

In October of the previous year, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that a new AirTag would be released in 2025, with full compatibility with the Apple Vision Pro.
