China calls Germany spy claims 'pure fabrication'
Beijing has vehemently denied accusations of Chinese espionage activities in Germany following the recent arrests of four individuals, labeling the claims as "pure fabrication." The statement from China's foreign ministry comes in response to Germany's assertions regarding the arrests and underscores the escalating tensions between the two countries over espionage allegations.
Foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin dismissed the allegations, stating, "The so-called Chinese spy case is pure fabrication." He further emphasized that China had lodged strong objections to what it deemed as baseless accusations made by Germany.
Germany's ambassador to Beijing revealed on Thursday that she had been summoned by Chinese authorities in response to the arrests of four Germans suspected of spying for China. Among those arrested were three individuals in western Germany accused of transmitting maritime technology information to China. Additionally, an assistant to a German member of the European Parliament was detained on Tuesday on suspicion of sharing assembly proceedings with Beijing and spying on Chinese opposition figures in Germany.
Wang reiterated China's firm opposition to any attempts to tarnish its reputation, stating, "China resolutely opposes any smearing and slander against China." He urged Germany to exercise vigilance against actions that could harm bilateral relations and called for an end to what Beijing perceives as a political spectacle targeting China.
