2026 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class: Luxury Redefined with Tech Upgrades and Hybrid Power
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class luxury sedan is set for a refresh in the 2026 model year, featuring updated styling, advanced technology, and cleaner powertrains. Spotted during cold-weather testing, the new model will incorporate the EQS-inspired MBUX Hyperscreen, a three-display infotainment system. This setup includes a digital instrument cluster, a passenger touchscreen, and other controls under a curved glass panel. Though some critics view it as a gimmick, chief technology officer Markus Schaefer notes high customer demand for the feature.
According to Auto Evolution, the partially camouflaged interior reveals updates, including a redesigned steering wheel and touch controls. The ignition and start-stop buttons are now located between the steering column and central display, with additional controls placed below the Hyperscreen. The steering wheel features Maybach branding, hinting at its exclusivity. Externally, camouflage covers the front and rear ends, but the Maybach-specific exhaust finishers remain. The headlights and taillights showcase starry lighting signatures for added distinction.
Mercedes-Benz aims to attract more buyers as S-Class deliveries fell 25% in 2024 compared to 2023, trailing competitors like the BMW 7 Series and i7. The facelift will likely reduce V8 options or introduce more electrified versions. The AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE stands out with its plug-in hybrid powertrain, producing 791 horsepower and 1,055 lb-ft of torque. It also features a wet starting clutch for better throttle response and sportier driving modes.
At the top of the lineup, the Maybach S 680 4MATIC retains its hand-assembled V12 engine, delivering 621 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. However, its future may involve a shift to a hybrid V8, given the AMG S 63’s superior performance and efficiency.
