United Kingdom: Manuscripts by J.R.R Tolkien and CS Lewis to be made public

Fans of the Narnia and The Lord of the Rings sagas will soon be able to peruse manuscripts and other archives from the two British authors J.R.R Tolkien and CS Lewis at Oxford.

CS Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien fans will rejoice as several manuscripts and books belonging to the two British authors will be made available to the public in 2023 in the United Kingdom.

During their studies at the University of Oxford, the writers responsible for two of the most popular fantasy worlds in literary history—Narnia and The Lord of the Rings—were close friends. Some of their correspondences will be exhibited for the first time to the public at the Story Museum and the Bodleian Library in Oxford.

Among these archives, Narnia fans can also explore CS Lewis's personal copy of Prince Caspian, the rare work Spirits in Bondage written under his pseudonym Clive Hamilton, and a notebook related to Boxen, a fictional world the author created in his childhood before Narnia.

BFMTV informs us that some manuscripts by Tolkien, such as the collection of poems The Adventures of Tom Bombadil, will also be accessible.

These archives are part of the collection of literary critic Walter Hooper's family. They have been gifted to the nation as part of the "Acceptance in Lieu and Cultural Gifts Scheme," which allows individuals to settle their inheritance taxes by transferring culturally, scientifically, or historically significant objects to the nation.
